Determining the AT needs of a child or student is the responsibility of the IFSP or the IEP team. This three-part series focuses on a process that may be used to evaluate the AT needs of a child or student. In this session, participants will learn about reviewing background data in order to begin to identify potential AT needs. Opportunities to ask questions will be included in the session.

Learning Outcomes
After participating in this session, individuals will:
-define what it means to look at a child's/student's skills from a human function perspective
-discuss a framework to guide the evaluation of AT needs process
-describe areas to discuss and analyze in determining potential AT needs

AT can serve a pivotal role when engaging in transition planning. Transition planning may occur at different parts of a student’s educational journey – including transitioning from Part C (0-3) services to Part B (school-aged) services, transitioning from elementary to middle school to high school, or preparing to transition to post-school scenarios. This session discusses factors to consider regarding AT when engaging in transition planning. Opportunities to ask questions will be included in the session.

Learning Outcomes

After participating in this session, individuals will:

-Explain at least 3 reasons why AT needs to be considered in transition planning

-Identify at least 3 factors that need to be considered regarding AT when engaging in transition planning

-Identify at least 3 strategies for documenting AT into a transition plan

Once AT has been identified for a child or a student, how should teams meaningfully integrate the AT tools/system into a child's IFSP or a student's IEP? This session explores components of IFSPs and IEPs that may contain information about AT and offers examples for how to meaningfully integrate the AT into IFSPs/IEPs. Opportunities to ask questions will be included in the session.

Learning Outcomes
After participating in this session, individuals will:
-identify at least 2 areas in which AT may be integrated into an IFSP
-identify at least 7 areas in which AT may be integrated into an IEP
-explain a rationale for each area of an IEP/IFSP in which AT may be integrated

-state a functional definition of AT that defines the scope and purpose of AT
-identify a process used to provide quality AT services to children and students
-summarize AT services that are defined in special education law that apply to all students receiving special education services.
